Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as drawing black rectangles in a viewer?
No. A viewer overlay can leave the original text underneath. This export does not copy the original page content. It rasterizes each page, paints your boxes black, and embeds those images in a new PDF.
Can anyone recover the redacted words from the download?
The original text objects are not copied, so search and copy should not return covered wording. Do not treat this as proof against every forensic method. Uncovered areas remain visible and can be OCR’d. Always check the file you are about to share.
Does the original PDF get modified?
No. You download a new file. Keep the original only if you still need it, and do not send it by mistake.
